Sitting for long periods can be damaging to health. Increasing daily physical activity improves cognition, attention, fine and gross motor skills and overall fitness for children. Children who establish active habits are more likely to become active adults and are at lower risk of chronic illnesses.
Schools and Early Childhood Services can run this very simple activity using a colourful dice with activities inserted into each side. When you feel children need a break from sitting, get the children to take turns rolling the dice and complete the physical activity prompt. In this video we are using a dice with plastic pockets so you can add in any activity idea that you wish and tailor it to be age appropriate. We would recommend breaking up periods of sitting every 30 minutes.
